My First SparkPeople Blog

My First Blog!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Well today is the beginning of a new fresh start. I know I have been a Sparks member for a while now but have yet to become committed. I am so tired of this yo-yo life with my weight. As of December 2010 I began to see a nutritionist. I weighed-in with her at 244lbs.. I thought to myself at the site of the scale that I was only fooling and hurting myself if I thought I wasn't in trouble. So just as the majority of the population does at the beginning of the new year I decided I was going to make a serious change. Along with that I also changed my screenname from ApostolicRose to NVRGIVINGUP. I am purposing in my heart that I will not give up on this temple just as I will never give up on my Creator.

My walk with God is very important to me. He has led and guided me through every test and trial. He promises to never leave me nor forsake me so I am going to hold to that promise and lean on Him to led and guide me through this newness of life.

I am going to strive to continue to blog on my page as often as I can...in hopes that it will keep me inspired to keep keep'n on!

THE OLD PHONE ON THE WALL.. HELLO

 SparkPeople Blog

Some times you just need to mix it up....

Thursday, March 03, 2011

I read a lot of messages, whether from my personal emails or sparkpeople, but I just had to put this story in a blog so I will have it to reflect on later.

I am on a Journey...

THE OLD PHONE ON THE WALL.. HELLO

When I was a young boy, my father had one of the first telephones in our
neighborhood.. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The
shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the
telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an
amazing person. Her name was "Information Please" and there was nothing she did
not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct
time.

My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my
mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the
basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there
seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy.

I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at
the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor
and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the
parlor and held it to my ear.

"Information, please" I said into the mouthpiece just above my head.

A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear.

"Information."

"I hurt my finger.." I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough
now that I had an audience.

"Isn't your mother home?" came the question.

"Nobody's home but me," I blubbered.

"Are you bleeding?" the voice asked.

"No," I replied. "I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts."
"Can you open the icebox?" she asked.

I said I could.

"Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger," said the
voice..

After that, I called "Information Please" for everything.. I asked her for
help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped
me with my math.

She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day
before, would eat fruit and nuts.

Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called,

Information Please," and told her the sad story.. She listened, and then
said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked
her, "Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all
families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?"

She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, " Wayne ,
always remember that there are other worlds to sing in."

Somehow I felt better.

Another day I was on the telephone, "Information Please."

"Information," said in the now familiar voice. "How do I spell fix?"
I asked.

All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was
nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston . I missed my friend
very much.

"Information Please" belonged in that old wooden box back home and I
somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table
in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood
conversations never really left me..

Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense
of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and
kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.

A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle
. I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on
the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I
was doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, "Information Please."

Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well.

"Information."

I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying,
"Could you please tell me how to spell fix?"

There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, "I guess your
finger must have healed by now."

I laughed, "So it's really you," I said. "I wonder if you have any
idea how much you meant to me during that time?"

I wonder," she said, "if you know how much your call meant to me.

I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls."

I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I
could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.

"Please do", she said. "Just ask for Sally."

Three months later I was back in Seattle ... A different voice answered,

"Information." I asked for Sally.

"Are you a friend?" she said.

"Yes, a very old friend," I answered.

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this,"She said. "Sally had been working part
time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago."

Before I could hang up, she said, "Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?" "

Yes." I answered.

"Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called.
Let me read it to you."

The note said,
"Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean."

I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.

Never underestimate the impression you may make on others..

Whose life have you touched today?

Why not pass this on? I just did....

Lifting you on eagle's wings.

May you find the joy and peace you long for.

Life is a journey.. NOT a guided tour.

I loved this story and just had to pass it on.

I hope you enjoy it too.

RIP ~ PERSISTENTTIM

I will forever keep him in my thoughts...Tim was very encouraging to me and always tried to motivate me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Hi Teresa,
Feel free to vent or just blabber on. I have contact daily with one person offline so I enjoy having people to exchange messages with now and then. I know you're right, at 40 I know I'll have to put myself out there to make friends.
I'm sorry to hear about your past drug problems but it's so encouraging to know you trusted God and he led you out of that life. I struggle everyday with my weight and like you've I've had ups and downs, mostly downs until the last year. I know the best in life is yet to come and if I can get healthy and spend it witnessing for The Lord I will be a happy man.
Good luck and write anytime my friend!
Hello Tim,
I just wanted to stop by and see how things are going today? I don't have someone that I am accountable to, except for myself, and know what it's like to wonder if anyone really cares out there. I am not by any means trying to be negative, I just want you to know that, when I ask how you are doing, I am being sincere. They say if you want to have friends you need to be friendly so I'm striving.
This last week I made a commitment to myself that I was going to do some form of exercise for 30 minutes a day and so far I'm doing it, I just pray that I can keep it up. I have this bad habit of starting things, do good at it and then stop. I hate that. I don't have a miraculous story such as yourself but I have always struggled with my weight all my life. It sincerely got worse for me when I quit using drugs back in 1996. Speed/Meth was my thing only because I enjoyed being uppity except I sure didn't look pretty lol. I got into picking my skin and I don't know if you've ever experienced seeing someone on speed, just trust me its not pretty. But I am glad to say that the good Lord delivered me from drugs and an immoral lifestyle and now I choose to serve Him.
Why I went off on all that? I do not know. I guess I just wanted to share something with you that is not really on my spark page.
So my highest was 267 and I'm only 5' 3" tall, a couple of months ago I got down to 239 and I was so excited, last week I went back up to 246 ;-/ and said, enough is enough. I dream of getting under 200 one day and I really want to do it in 2015. I had tried to lose 50 by 50(Dec 29) last year but didn't attain that goal. So I'm trying again. I'm praying to at least lose 45 by June. I believe with the help of the Lord I will make it.
Well so much from my jabber jaws....sorry to have gone on and on. I really take you as an inspiration and I will follow you on your journey.
God Bless you!
How to attach a link to a post
1.When you copy an email address put it down on something , like an email,
ex: https://www.youtube.co
4. copy and paste it into the link button
5. now you have an actual link, that works,=. relisa taught me that. www.youtube.com/watchv=AWkpjGMZFjc&l
My Sparkpage from Sparkpeople
 Today I will begin to transfer my content from my Sparkpage from Sparkpeople because they are closing down the site on Aug. 17, 2021 and everything on there will be deleted.
Hello and thank you for stopping by my page. My name is Teresa, I am 55yrs old and I live in Lancaster, CA. I have 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren. I work as a Para Professional with the school district and I love working with children. I started my journey with Sparkpeople back in 2006 and have yo-yoed up until March 2018. I have finally found what works for me and I am not ever going to give up not even when I reach my goal.This I found is not something that you do and then stop, it's a lifestyle change. My daughter, Jamie (j_mcc_85) was told by her doctor last year (2017) that she is type 2 diabetic and was put on medication. I knew I needed to do something to help her along with myself. She topped the scale at 301 12/2016 and in 1/2018 she was 297. Today she is 256 and the weight is basically melting off. For myself it has been a little slower however it's going down and not coming back up (ever). So in March we started implementing the deletion of sugar, flour, rice, potatoes, starches, all non-healthy and high carb fruits and within a week we began to see, feel and notice a change in our bodies. It was amazing! Inflammation -gone, swelling - gone, hunger - gone and cravings - gone. However our minds can play a little trick on us especially during the time of the month when we think we have to have CHOCOLATE but keto bombs are there to save the day.
I have to admit that we do have our cheat days when we just want some pizza (with crust) and our favorite Parmesan potatoes from Vince's Pasta & Pizza. However now we order a personal size pizza and small order of potatoes to share and we eat one slice of pizza after we top it with the toppings from the other slices and dip everything in ranch.
I have done a lot of research on the Ketogenic diet and I strive to stay as honest to it as I can. You have to make sure you keep up your electrolytes and you can do that by using Himalayan salt (pink salt). It doesn't affect high blood pressure like table salt and it is extremely good for you.
Also neither one of us have done any extra exercise than getting our 10,000+ steps a day and you can simply do this by getting up out of your seat and stepping in place, watch a Walking with Leslie or just go for a stroll. We will be implementing other exercises as we get our weight down.
If you would like to learn more about what we are doing please feel free to leave me a commit, add me as a friend (and my daughter j_mcc_85), read and subscribe to my blog.
Also if you are following a low carb/keto lifestyle please share with me your tricks and inspirations along your healthy lifestyle.
God bless you!
